I'm very proud of the invitations my students completed using Illustrator. It was the first time many of the students had used the software and they did a great job. In addition, it's a summer course which means the time is condensed. They learned a lot in a short amount of time and worked hard. All of the illustrations featured were custom-made by my students and I also encouraged the students to focus on strong hierarchy and typography.
One of my favorite invitations was for an "ice cream social" and featured ice cream scoops that unfold to showcase fun surprises. There's also many other nice invitations, such as a Western Saloon (complete with opening doors), a lovely tea party, and a "'Merica Done" 4th of July party for hipsters in South City.
Make a Magazine... Featuring You!

I wanted a fun way to get my students excited about learning Photoshop and InDesign. I decided to have each student create a magazine cover and inside spread.... But instead of featuring a celebrity, I wanted the students to feature themselves. To do this I brought in my camera, set up a photo studio in the adjourning classroom, and put out props like hats and glasses. Each student had a turn modeling for the camera and then I placed their photos on OneDrive. After that it was the students job to find their strongest pictures, spend time creating new backdrops in Photoshop, and creating an article using InDesign. I noticed my students showed a great deal of ownership with this project and were especially passionate about their work. Some of the finished magazines are below and they turned out great!

My graphic design class was introduced to the art of image-making using vintage magazines, scanners, and Photoshop. After they completed the artwork they were then prompted to design an article in InDesign. Below are a few of my favorite finished projects.
